  • Overview

    Provide proactive, practical and sound advice and counsel to various departments within the organization with respect to the company's contract management/negotiation process and legal compliance programs focused on advertising, sales, marketing, and regulations applicable to national retailers and manufacturers.  

    Responsibilities

    • Lead the contract negotiation and management function, including driving process efficiency and scale and drafting/negotiating/overseeing wide variety of commercial transactions (e.g. Master Services Agreements, Professional Service Agreements, Sports and Entertainment Sponsorship Agreements, SAAS, and Non-Disclosure Agreements, etc.).
    • Lead the legal compliance function with respect to advertising, marketing and sales as well as federal, state and local regulations applicable to national manufacturers and retailers, driving process efficiency/scale, strategic guidelines, and mitigating legal risks.
    • Participate in leading the ongoing management of Sleep Number’s corporate policies and guidelines.
    • Provide strategic counseling and advice on new business opportunities including new channels and international expansion.
    • Effectively manage outside counsel as necessary.

     

    Qualifications

    Experience, Education & Certifications:

    • 7-10+ years of experience as a lawyer with a law firm or corporate legal department working in the areas of responsibility delineated above.
    • Law degree and license to practice law in at least one jurisdiction with ability to qualify under Minnesota's Corporate Counsel registration program; licensed to practice in MN preferred.
    • Experience with variety of transactional matters and contract management, preferably with focus on manufacturing and retail environment.  
    • Experience, and subject matter expertise, with advertising, sales, and marketing compliance, including claim substantiation, social media, sponsorship/endorsements, sweepstakes, consumer financing, etc.
    • Experience managing compliance with state and federal laws, rules and regulations applicable to nationwide retail/manufacturing companies with multi-channel sales and distributions networks.
    • International experience desired, but not required.

    • Must be able to assimilate well into a collegial, cooperative team environment and contribute equally to the overall success of the larger Legal Team.
    • Strong negotiation skills
