  • Overview

    The Technical Project Manager will be a key member in Sleep Number’s strategic execution of product development, championing new product introduction, and continuation engineering, projects cross functionally in support of our vision of becoming the world’s most beloved brand by delivering an unparalleled sleep experience. This position is responsible for providing Project Management expertise for NPI projects, sustaining engineering projects and value engineering projects while identifying and implementing process improvements across the organization. This role requires interaction with multiple functional departments to execute on the company’s strategic plans. The Project Manager will work with R&D leaders to establish and sustain all project metrics to ensure strong focus on high quality processes to deliver high levels of organizational effectiveness and reduced time to market.

     

    Responsibilities

    • Ensure Program Management tools and skills are used at the appropriate levels for all projects
    • Support resource allocation with functional owners for active and upcoming projects
    • Track and report project metrics for monthly operating reviews
    • Interface cross functionally with other leaders and project managers to drive product development
    • Participate in efforts toward improved processes and productivity
    • Effectively use six sigma methods and PMP tools to improve products and processes
    • Provide direction and hold cross-functional teams accountable to execute NPI projects
    • Constantly seek, share, and implement best practices
    • Ensure that end-to-end processes deliver the operational benefits anticipated by the business
    • Work with external suppliers and partners to insure quality deliverables and adherence to schedule
    • Manage R&D project implementation logistics and timing
    • Track and optimize R&D project and expense budgets

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering
    • A minimum of 3+ years of experience in a Project Management / Engineering role
    • Six-Sigma experience considered a plus
    • PMP certification considered a plus
    • Strong technical aptitude
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, and practical application of project management skills
    • Self-motivated with a high level of initiative and a proactive approach along with time management
      • Demonstrated ability to lead technical and cross-functional project teams from concept to market successfully
      • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership in the area of project management
      • Proven ability to successfully perform within a cross-functional team environment. Collaborate on cross-functional projects
      • Strong presentation skills and ability to present complex ideas and content to diverse audiences
      • Common project planning and management software tool experience
