Overview

Sleep Number is seeking an experienced Regional Distribution Center Manager who will be responsible for developing and managing the processes that support product receipt, warehousing, inventory management, picking, packing and shipping within the national Distribution Center Network. This role is expected to develop and maintain best practices and drive performance for all warehousing responsibilities including: inventory control, labor utilization, transactional accuracy, billing and invoice accuracy, and reporting tools and mechanisms.  This role collaborates with all Supply Chain departments to improve broader organizational processes that impact the flow of product through the distribution network.  This position directly impacts organization performance through the management and inspection of warehouse productivity and efficiency.  Strategically this position will play a pivotal role in the creation, execution, management and delivery of best in class warehouse services; all of which will lead to an enhanced customer delivery experience.  As we continue to grow and evolve as an organization this role will also be leveraged to assist with the expansion and design of the network, to include scope and level of service needed by the network to support company goals and objects. 

Responsibilities

  • Provide monthly reporting of financials, create and implement cost cutting measures at each 3rd party facility
  • Scrupulously inspect and authorize billing and invoicing in accordance to contractual agreements
  • Develop and implement reporting tools and mechanisms that effectively communicate distribution center KPIs
  • Identify, evaluate, and implement opportunities based on industry standards and best practices for increased financial efficiency within the Distribution Center Network.
  • Develop and implement data analysis tools/techniques to effectively determine the root cause of inventory discrepancies, service failures, and inefficiencies to quantify and report all warehouse metrics and KPI’s
  • Define and monitor process requirements for all Distribution Center deliverables (Including but limited to):
    • Inventory Control
    • Receipt/Inbound processing
    • Storage
    • Shipment/Outbound processing
    • Transactional Accuracy and alignment between Sleep number System of Record and Distribution Center
    • Labor Utilization
  • Lead adhoc projects with Distribution Center focus (physical inventories, cycle counts, WMS enhancements, LEAN initiatives, inventory stocking strategies, etc)
  • Be instrumental in opening and relocation of facilities as part of the Distribution Center Network long range plan
  • Support and deliver transformation projects relating to stocking, assembly and scope of work in the Distribution Centers
  • Aid in evaluation of all network options for increasing profitability for (insource vs outsource, multiple 3PL vendors vs sole, etc)

Qualifications

  • BS degree in logistics, supply chain management or business administration
  • 7-10 years logistics experience with an emphasis on distribution center management
  • 5 years in Regional/Territory Distribution Manager
  • Multiple location Distribution Center experience
  • Expertise in warehouse management procedures and best practices
  • Hands on experience with warehouse management software and databases, preference with Oracle R12 and WMS
  • Experience in implementation of WMS desired
  • Experience in consolidating and expanding distribution centers.
  • Demonstrated competency as a change agent with the ability to manage and lead small teams and 3PLs
  • Ability to use strong decision making and problem solving skills, logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solution, conclusions, or approaches to problems
  • Strong interpersonal, communication (both written and verbal), and leadership skills required in order to effectively communicate initiatives and drive key business initiatives through the leadership team, non-exempt populations, and cross functional teams
  • The ability to adapt, learn and become proficient in multiple systems quickly
  • Excellent project management skills with demonstrated analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills and the ability to drive results
  • Proficient in the use of basic statistics, other analytical tools and Microsoft Office suite
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with good time management skills
  • Ability to operate on tight deadlines with multiple priorities that are subject to frequent change
  • Proven ability to implement process improvement initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of warehousing Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
  • Ability to travel 50% of the time
