Overview

Sleep Number is seeking an experienced Fulfillment Center Manager to provide both day-to-day operational management and strategic leadership of our Bedding Collection Fulfillment Center (BCFC) in Minnesota.  This individual will oversee the efficient receipt, storage, inventory management, picking, packing, and outbound shipping of all products within the Sleep Number Bedding Collection.  A successful candidate will provide operational leadership, coaching, and development to the associates, coordinate the allocation and planning of resources, control expenses, and promote a safe work environment.  The Manager will drive operational excellence across all functions and will introduce lean process improvements to deliver on cost savings initiatives, as well as complete annual planning tasks such as budgeting, goal setting, compensation planning and performance reviews.

 

Strategic initiatives that the Fulfillment Center Manager will be tasked with include development and deployment of a robust go-to-market strategy that seeks to improve the customer experience.  This will be accomplished through new network design, application of lean principles, system enhancements, process improvement, reporting and monitoring of key performance indicators, and partnering with the Bedding Collection product team.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain distribution operations by initiating, coordinating, and enforcing operational and personnel policies and procedures including safety, security and inventory management.
  • Continuously improve performance as measured by Key Performance Indicators by leveraging experience and ‘lean tools’ to improve efficiencies.
  • Collaborate with and liaison to various internal and external functional areas including other departments, vendors, and carriers.
  • Maintain physical condition of warehouse by planning and implementing new design layouts as needed; inspecting equipment; issuing work orders for repair and requisitions for replacement.
  • Achieve financial objectives on all KPIs by preparing an annual budget; scheduling expenditures; analyzing variances; initiating corrective actions.
  • Ensure optimal warehouse staffing and results by managing recruiting, training, coaching and disciplining employees as needed.
  • Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
  • Help create and manage new strategy implementations to the bedding collection operations.
  • Design and build a go-to market model for the Sleep Number Bedding Collection along with the process to initiate and execute the model while minimizing business and customer impact

Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a fulfillment center, warehouse, or distribution center.
  • 2+ years of supervisory or management level experience leading teams in a fulfillment center, warehouse, or distribution center including direct hire/fire responsibility.
  • Experience in leading teams, developing employees, and conducting annual year-end activities such as performance reviews, compensation planning, budgeting and goal-setting.
  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, business, operations, or engineering.
  • Project Management experience.
  • Lean Management experience.
  • World Class Quality Principle
  • OSHA / Safety Requirements for warehousing
  • Oracle or other ERP software knowledge; previous use of WMS and TMS
  • Able to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while meeting strict deadlines
  • Excellent coaching, guiding and developmental skills; able to organize and allocate resources to achieve business objective
