Overview

The Senior Test Engineer provides technical support to new product development and standard product support engineering activities, serving as an expert on electromechanical testing, prototype builds, troubleshooting, lab equipment, etc. This individual will be a key member in Select Comfort’s strategic execution of product development, championing great design and problem solving skills in support of our vision of becoming the world’s most beloved brand by delivering an unparalleled sleep experience.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, lead and/or conduct laboratory tests, including procedure writing, test execution, test report writing and report approval.
  • Develop, maintain and execute on test validation plans
  • Lead responsibility for maintaining a neat, orderly and safe test lab environment. Maintain the organization of lab equipment and lab facilities. Maintain lab supplies with regard to electrical and mechanical test needs. Perform periodic maintenance, calibration & repair of test equipment.
  • Develop relationships and coordinate with suppliers to get quotes and manage invoices for test lab equipment and material.
  • Manage outside EMC and safety list testing activities
  • Partner with the lab manager in maintaining workflow through the test lab by assigning technicians to projects based on engineering priorities, schedules and tasks estimates.
  • Mentor and train technicians in the lab.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 7 years of relevant experience in an electro-mechanical lab test and development environment. Proven track record of numerous successful product launches.
  • 5+ years experience working in a “stage gate” new product development (NPD) process is a major plus.
  • 4-year engineering degree required
  • Highly proficient in performing reliability testing (i.e. HALT, HASS, ALT). 
  • Ability to read and understand mechanical and electrical drawings, including analog and digital circuit schematics.
  • Ability to develop, design, build, outsource and document electrical and mechanical test fixtures that meet the needs of the developed test procedure
  • Ability to independently conduct competitive evaluation and benchmarking of products, with limited inputs from engineers.
  • Highly proficient in using LabView.
  • Experience working with external agencies (i.e. UL, FCC, etc).
  • Knowledge of Pro/ENGINEER is a plus.
  • Experience with sophisticated or complex electrical/mechanical systems, test equipment and test automation. 
  • Excellent trouble-shooting skills. 
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to plan, organize and prioritize.
  • Ability to work independently and/or within a team environment as a leader or individual contributor.
  • Conscientious, team player who drives for results.
  • Ability to lift to 50 lbs.
  • Light travel based on business needs.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage numerous projects simultaneously.
